Boards and Commissions - General Info

In addition to the various departments that make up the City of Vicksburg government, there are also boards and commissions that help to set policies and provide services within the City of Vicksburg. These boards, which are composed primarily of community members, not only give private citizens the ability to participate in civic action, but also give voice to specific issues that may not otherwise receive proper attention.

Volunteers serve on a City board or commission that has been created by either City of Vicksburg regulation, the Mayor and Aldermen resolution or executive appointment. The responsibilities, powers, terms of office, membership size, qualifications, and meeting schedule vary for each board and commission.

The Mayor and Aldermen seek nominations of citizens interested in serving on a board as vacancies arise. For more information about joining a particular board or commission, or for a complete listing of the boards and commissions in the City of Vicksburg, stop by the City Clerk's Office located at 1401 Walnut Street between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call them at (601) 634-4553.
