Mayor Willis T. Thompson

Willis Thompson began his term as Mayor of the City of Vicksburg on July 1, 2025, following his swearing-in ceremony on June 30, 2025.

From 2013 to 2017, he served as Alderman for Vicksburg’s South Ward (Ward 2), where he earned a reputation for collaborative governance and hands-on problem solving. In addition to his work in city government, Mayor Thompson has spent over two decades in the Information Technology sector, giving him a strong foundation in both technical innovation and strategic management.

He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Jackson State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University Global and a Master of Divinity from Liberty University. These credentials underpin his holistic approach to leadership - combining analytical rigor, business acumen, and ethical vision.

Mayor Thompson’s campaign platform centered on:

  • Public Safety: strengthening law enforcement partnerships and community policing
  • Infrastructure Investment: repairing roads, modernizing utilities, and expanding broadband access
  • Youth Development: enhancing after-school programs, vocational training, and scholarships
  • Code Enforcement & Beautification: ensuring safe, attractive neighborhoods
  • Business-Friendly Environment: streamlining permitting, reducing red tape, and supporting local entrepreneurs

As Mayor, Thompson is committed to being a mayor for everyone, with an emphasis on solutions, action, and measurable results. He has pledged to foster transparency, shared leadership, enhanced public safety, robust economic development, and a renewed spirit of community throughout Vicksburg.

Personal & Community

Mayor Thompson and his wife, Dr. Candy Sias-Thompson, are proud parents of five children. A devoted family man and active church member, he worships at Vicksburg Family Life Church, where he volunteers on both teaching and outreach ministries.
