Citizen Suggestions

There are many different ways by which you can directly improve the quality of service that the City of Vicksburg provides you, your family, or your business. While public meetings, hearings, and debates are an excellent place to make a suggestion or address a problem on a broad scale, the most effective path of communication is usually directly through the department or program concerned.

In September 2002, the City of Vicksburg established an Action line and help desk. Area citizens can call this central number, 636-3411 or stop by 1401 Walnut St., first floor, to report problems, express concerns, take citizen suggestions or simply get information. Never before have the citizens of Vicksburg had such easy access to their government. All calls, except for simple transfers, are logged and tracked in a work order database. Work orders are then forwarded to the proper department for action and in the case of a caller needing more specific information their calls are then transferred to the appropriate department. The Action Line staff monitors the system for incidences that are not completed in a timely manner and makes inquiries as to the disposition of those incidents. The system helps us provide more efficient services, easy access for the public when they do not know which department to call; as well as insure that problems do not fall through the cracks.

After 5:00pm, weekends and holidays this line rolls forward to the 24 hour gas plant dispatchers. The dispatchers will also take service requests, complaints and informational calls, if urgent they will immediately dispatch an on call employee, otherwise they will generate work orders to be entered the next working day by the Action Line and then forwarded to the appropriate department.

Call them at (601)636-3411 any time. Let government work for you.
