Seat Belt and Child Safety Seat Laws

Buckle up, no excuses

According to state regulation, all passengers traveling in the front seat of a motorized vehicle are required to use adult safety lap belts or a combination of approved lap belts and shoulder straps. This law does not apply to citizens who have received medical authorization prohibiting seat belt use, law enforcement officers transporting persons in custody, United States Postal Service workers operating a postal vehicle, licensed taxi drivers, or newspaper route carriers and haulers.

Additionally, all children age four and under or who are under forty pounds in weight are required to ride in the back seat in an approved child car safety seat that is properly installed into the vehicle.

Violation of this law is subject to fines and possible other penalties.
