Speaker of the House, Philip Gunn visted the River City as part of his statewide listening tour. Education and economic development where just a few of the topics discussed by area residents during the forum with Rep. Gunn Wednesday at the Vicksburg Convention Center. More than 100 area residents and leaders, including Rep. Alex Monsour, state Sen. Briggs Hopson III, Aldermen Mayfield and Thompson, and Mayor Flaggs, attended the one-hour program to voice their thoughts and concerns on issues that affect Vicksburg and Warren County.

The meetings are for information gathering purposes, Gunn said, not a political forum or debate. "The purpose of these meetings is to get into communities and hear ideas Mississippians have for improving our state," Gunn said. Last year, he said, "a variety of people from all different backgrounds attended these meetings and shared some of their biggest concerns and opinions regarding core issues most Mississippians grapple with daily."
