City of VIcksburg Storm DrainThe City of Vicksburg Sewer Department is responsible for installing and maintaining storm drains and drainage ditches in public areas and along City streets. After a rain storm drains and ditches divert the water and debris away from road surfaces, public access areas, or low basins where water collection could be unhealthy and dangerous. Water instead flows into drains and ditches where it can be safely channeled into streams, lakes, or the ground. The system consists of inlets or catch basins, open channels, ditches, underground pipelines, and detention ponds.

The Sewer Department routinely cleans drains and ditches to remove any obstacles obstructing the flow of water and makes structural improvements to insure that the system is efficiently and reasonably handling water flow. Citizens are reminded to never dispose of leaves, grass clippings, or trash into the drainage system or in a location, such as a roadway, where debris could be swept into the system by storm water. Such actions may result in serious flooding after the next storm.

For more information, or to report a storm drain or ditch that is backed up or flooding, contact the City of Vicksburg Sewer Department located at 1080 Army-Navy Dr., between 7:00am and 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, or call them at (601) 634-4535 or call the City of Vicksburg Action Line at (601) 636-3411. The numbers again are Sewer department at (601) 634-4535 or the Action Line at (601) 636-3411.
