George Flaggs, Jr. will be sworn in as Mayor, Michael Mayfield, Sr. as North Ward Alderman and Alex Monsour, Jr. as South Ward Alderman. The ceremony will be held Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 6:00 pm at the Vicksburg City Auditorium located at 901 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS. Miss Mississippi, Anne Elizabeth Buys, will make a special appearance and remarks will be made by Dr. Jerry Young, Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church and President of the National Baptist Convention. The event is open to the public.

Friends of Vicksburg National military Park and Campaign is partnering with four Seasons of the Arts, Vicksburg National Military Park and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra to provide a Pops Concert at no charge on the hallowed grounds of Vicksburg National Military Park to commemorate Memorial Day Weekend. The concert will be Saturday, May 28 at 7:00 p.m. on the grounds of the park in front of the VNMP Visitor Center.

There will be a tiny home driving thru the Vicksburg area and we want to let everyone know about it! Thursday May 19th from 5pm to 7pm at the Gazebo in front of the Blue Room Blues Marker (close to 601 Clay street by Catfish Park) AND then Friday May 20th from 10am to 2pm at the Vicksburg Home Depot, the "Just a Tiny Drop in the Bucket" Tour will be making a stop in Vicksburg.

Willis Thompson MML Certificate

Willis Thompson, of the city of Vicksburg, has graduated from the Basic Level of the Certified Municipal official (CMO) program sponsored by the Mississippi Municipal League (MML). Under this program, local elected officials complete training and activities directly related to understanding and improving the management of local municipal issues. 

Alderman Thompson received the Basic CMO certification, which is earned by accumulating a minimum of 60 hours of training presented by the MML. The program is designed to take about two years to complete.
