If you are planning a construction project in City of Vicksburg that involves the addition, replacement, repair, or alteration of mechanical systems in structures, contact the City of Vicksburg Building & Inspection Department to learn the required and recommended steps for performing mechanical work. This includes work such as installing HVAC systems to replacing old duct work.

You are required to apply for a mechanical permit before any work can begin. Mechanical permits are based upon valuation of work for mechanical systems or equipment. The cost of a mechanical permit is a base fee of $10.00 plus additional costs dependent on the nature of the work.

Once mechanical work has been completed, you can request an inspection from the Building and Inspection Department. An inspection which costs $15.00 per inspection is mandatory before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued. When requesting an inspection, please give relevant permit numbers, the time, date, the place you would like the inspection and the name of the contractor. Allow a minimum of 24 hours from the time of your request for a mechanical inspector to visit your site. After the inspection has been completed, the inspection card will be marked appropriately if the inspection passed or failed. If you would like a permit application, inspection, or more information about ways the Building and Inspection Department can assist you, visit them at 819 South Street from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call them at (601) 634-4528.
