Ergon, Inc. Announces Expansion at its Vicksburg, MS Refinery

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday, September 17, 2012 in support of a Fee in Lieu of Taxes arrangement to support the Ergon, Inc.'s, expansion of its naphthenic specialty oil refinery in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Mayor Paul Winfield is pleased to announce that the five-phase, $147 million expansion plan encompasses new administrative and laboratory facilities, a new technical development center and upgrades to the refining units to increase product diversity and quality control.

Leslie Lampton, Ergon's Chairman stated, "This investment in our Vicksburg refinery is not only an investment in our facility, but in Vicksburg as well. These upgrades allow Ergon Refining to continue to deliver the highest quality products in our markets."

 FEMA Assistance Team At Vicksburg Mall

FEMA will have a strike team in Vicksburg at the Vicksburg Mall beginning Thursday September 27,2012 through Friday October 5, 2012. The team will be here to assist individuals that would like to apply for individual assistance with damages from Hurricane Isaac. The hours are from 12pm-6pm on September 27 and September 28 and from 9am-6pm on September 29 and then from 9am-6pm October 1-5. They will be closed on Sunday.
NationalNightOutThe 2012 National Night Out, Community Partnership Against Crime event, will be held Tuesday October 2, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Block parties will be held in neighborhoods all over the city! The following locations have notified the VPD of their participation:
  1. Vicksburg Housing Authority (3 locations) Rolling Acres/Elizabeth Circle, Waltersville Estate, Cedars Estate
  2. Downtown Crimewatch - Monroe and Grove (grassy area in front of the Bazsinsky House)
  3. Fostoria Neighborhood Association - 2400 block of Drummond
  4. Marcus Bottom Neighborhood Association - 2629 Alma Mt. Carmel church
  5. Parkview/River City Neighborhood Association - River City Rescue Mission 3705 Washington St.
  6. Bering and Lightcap Neighborhood Association - (vacant lot at end of Lightcap)
  7. Meadowbrook Properties Red Bone Road - 146 Meadowbrook Dr. Hwy 61 South

3rd Annual Bricks and Spokes

bricks and spokesCome be a part of history at Downtown Vicksburg 3rd Annual Bricks and Spokes bike ride on October 6th. Bricks and Spokes offers a ride for everyone! The ride will begin and end at the Senior Center at 801 South Street. There will be a 10, 30, and 50 mile ride. Each route will take you over the Old Mississippi Bridge and into the flat land of Louisiana. After crossing the Mighty Mississippi the routes will bring cyclist back into the rolling hills of Vicksburg and take them throughout the city and into the beautiful scenery of Warren County.

Bricks and Spokes offer riders the opportunity to ride over the Mighty Mississippi and enjoy the views of the beautiful river, Louisiana, gorgeous Downtown Vicksburg and Warren County. All bikes (i.e. road bikes, mountain bikes, triathlon bikes, recumbent bikes) will be accepted as well as all skill levels! The ride will consist of plenty of aid stations along the way to fill up on great snacks! After the ride stay and enjoy live entertainment, red beans and rice, and refreshments for all participant's and volunteer's. Musical entertainment provided by "The Beatles Guy" Participants of the 3rd Annual Bricks and Spokes will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag prior to the ride.

Packet pickup will take place on Friday, October 5th at the Senior Center in Downtown Vicksburg from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. After picking up your packet enjoy a FREE outdoor concert downtown featuring live entertainment by Osgood and Blaque and Slap Happy at Riverstage Plaza on Washington Street beginning at 6:30 p.m.

18th Annual Fall Festival

Join us in Downtown Vicksburg for the 18th Annual Fall Festival on October 5th and October 6th. Festivities will begin on Friday night at 6:30p.m. with FREE live entertainment. Enjoy the sounds of Osgood and Blaque and Slap Happy playing at Riverstage Plaza. The fun will continue to Saturday with the ride beginning at 8:00 a.m. followed by a day full of Daytime Exhibitions, musical performances, art booths, free face painting, balloons, caricature drawings, children activities, wonderful sidewalk sales and much more beginning at 10:00 a.m. This year Riverfest is teaming up with Fall Fest and presenting Battle of the Bands Saturday afternoon. Vicksburg Farmers' Market farmers will also be joining us Downtown selling their fresh tomatoes, fall squash, fall zucchini, and much more!  New Consignment Shop Opens Downtown

Vicksburg resident Temeka Stewart, recently opened a new consignment shop in downtown Vicksburg.

Barbie's House of Consignment is a ladies' consignment shop that specializes in formal, vintage and designer wear. They also handle wedding dresses. Business hours are 10 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 5:30 pm on Saturday. The shop is located at 1403 Washington Street.  29th Annual Old Court House Flea Market

Oct 6th• 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM The 29th Annual Old Court House Flea Market featuring over 200 arts/crafts and food booths will be around the Old Court House Museum, 1008 Cherry Street from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm rain or shine. Vendors are to set up on the square at street level around the Old Court House. Arts/crafts booths are 10' by10' and $50. Food Booths are $60. Last year's attendance was over 3,000.
