Lower Mississippi River Museum and Riverfront Interpretive Center Set To Open

The main building of the museum, which will house interactive displays about the Mississippi River and the Corps, is set to open August 24, 2012 at 9:00 am. Visitors will get to tinker with models of the levee system and get a glimpse of life inside a refugee tent during the 1927 flood. There will be many exhibits available that interest young children.

Sales Tax Holiday July 27 and 28, 2012 

The annual Sales Tax Holiday begins12:01 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, and ends 12:00 midnight Saturday, July

28, 2012. Please review the listing of eligible and non-eligible clothing and footwear items for more information.

The items exempt from sales tax during 
the Sales Tax Holiday are identical to those items exempt in prior years. Clothing and footwear items, meant to be worn next to the body and cost less than $100 per item, are exempt from sales tax during this period. Accessories such as jewelry, handbags, wallets, watches, backpacks, and similar items do not qualify for the Sales Tax Holiday. Cleats and items worn in conjunction with an athletic or recreational activity are other sample items not eligible. School supplies and computers are not included.



Governor's Cup Baseball Tournament

baseballCome be a part of Vicksburg's biggest baseball tournament of the year. Scores of teams from around the State will be in Vicksburg the weekend of July 27-29 and August 3-5, 2012. Bring your team and compete with some of the best young players around. You will play in the Governor's Cup as the same age you played your State Tournament.First weekend - 7/27 - 7/29 ALL even ages 6/8/10/12/14/(15/16)Second weekend - 8/3 - 8/5 ALL odd ages 7/9/11/13/ 8U Kid Pitch - 13's will play on 60'6" mound and 90' bases.

Old Depot Transportation Museum Open


We are very excited for the Old Depot Museum to become a part of Downtown Vicksburg. The museum will be a great addition to the tourism attractions and industry in Vicksburg, with both education and entertainment value for all audiences. Patsy's Downtown Market 
Patsy's Downtown Market, located at 1205 Washington St, should be a definite stop on your visit to downtown Vicksburg. Owner, Patsy Humble, opened the first of May. She carries specialty food and beer, healthy snacks, and soft drinks. She also has art pieces from local artists. The bottle cap art she has is a must see. She offers fresh bread every Thursday, and fresh oysters on Fridays. Operating hours are Monday thru Friday 10am – 6pm, Saturdays 10am – 2pm.

Enjoy great food at the new downtown Mexican restaurant located at 1415 Washington St. El Rio offers authentic Mexican cuisine in a great atmosphere with friendly staff. Pool Back To School Schedule


Beginning August 6, 2012 the "Back To School" pool hours will be:

9:00-11:00 - Senior citizen swim
11:00-1:00 - Lap swim
2:00-4:00 – High school swim team practice
4:00-6:00 – Recreation swim
6:00-8:00 – Swim team practice

Saturday and Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. through August 26, 2012

Price is $4:00 for adults $2.00 for children under 13

Jackson St. Gym usage hours:  Monday thru Thursday, gym opens at 3:00pm - 6:30pm Youth play, 6:30pm - 10:00pm Adult play. Friday - Gym open from 3:00pm till 6:00pm, Saturday - 11:00pm - 3:00pm.

Fall Baseball Registration - Registration for Fall Baseball will begin August 8, 2012 through September 10, 2012. Co-Ed Softball Registration August 8, 2012 through September 7, 2012.

3rd Annual Bricks and Spokes

The Vicksburg Main Street Program is excited to announce registration for the 3rd Annual Bricks and Spokes bicycle ride is now online!

Main Street hosted the 2nd Annual bike ride last year and it was truly a great success! The ride will take place on Saturday, October 6th beginning at 8:00 a.m. There will be a 10 mile, 30 mile, and 50 mile route option. All of the routes will start and end in Downtown Vicksburg with great food, musical entertainment, and children activities galore! To register for the ride visit www.racesonline.com. The fee is $30 for early bird registration and $35 up until ride day. All early bird registrants will receive an official 3rd Annual Bricks and Spokes shirt. Bricks and Spokes serves as the major fundraiser for the Main Street Program.
