• The Gas Department is replacing a low pressure gas line on Washington Street, from Bowmar Avenue to Belmont Street. This line is being converted to an intermediate pressure line.

• The trickling filter repair has been completed at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.

• The Street Department has received bids for the Washington Street repairs. The contract was awarded to American Field Services during a Board Meeting, Friday, June 8, 2012. This project should be completed this summer.

• The Landscaping Department has recently completed a rehabilitation of the landscaping on the south side of the Convention Center and are now landscaping the Old Depot Train Station on Levi Street.

Museum Opens At The Old Depot

The much anticipated Transportation Museum is open for business and has scheduled an official grand opening for July 15, 2012. The museum features 250 models of ships and boats, cars dating to the early 1900s and six airplanes. Also on display are model trains and original oil paintings of Civil War ships and river battles. The museum houses a Civil War room, its centerpiece is a Vicksburg battle and siege diorama with 2,300 human figures plus horses, cannon and fortifications placed to depict Union and Confederate positions.  There are also displays of about 50 vessels named for Mississippians.

The 2012 season begins May 5, 2012 and runs through July 28, 2012. Market hours are each Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Pageant week activities will begin on Saturday, June 23, 2012 with a Magnolia Prince & Princess Crowning Ceremony from 7pm to 9pm at the center court area of the Vicksburg Mall. The Miss Mississippi Corporation will be hosting this free event which is open to the public. The Miss Mississippi Pageant Parade is scheduled for Monday, June 25, 2012 at 7:00 pm along Washington Street in downtown Vicksburg. There are three scheduled autograph parties during the week. The first one is Monday night after the parade and will be held at The Outlets of Vicksburg from about 8:00 to 9:30pm On Wednesday June 27 from 10:00 to 11:30 am, there will be an autograph party at George Carr located at 2950 S Frontage Road. On Thursday June 28 from 10:00 to 11:30 am, there will be an autograph party in downtown Vicksburg at various retailers. The pageant runs from June 27-30. Independence Day Fireworks Celebration

Come celebrate 4th of July on the River in downtown Vicksburg! The fireworks extravaganza on the mighty Mississippi will follow live music performance by the Compositionz at 7 p.m. The fireworks will be shot behind historic Levee Depot. You can find a spot along Washington between Jackson and Grove streets.
