A variety of utility assistance options are available to low income citizens of Vicksburg. The goal of these programs is to insure that all citizens have the necessary water, sewage, heat, and electricity for their homes. Most of the programs are targeted to families and individuals with incomes at or below the poverty level or to senior and disabled citizens. Eligibility is based upon financial and non-financial factors.

To find out specific information about programs, or to speak with a representative about applying for aid, contact the City of Vicksburg Human Services Department located at 1415 Walnut Street, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call them at (601) 631-3769. The goal of federal programs like welfare, unemployment, and social security is to help low income or needful citizens reach a level of self-sufficiency within the community. Citizens applying for these programs must provide accurate information and documentation about their living situations and finances to assess their eligibility for these publicly funded programs. Citizens who fail to provide accurate information or report changes to information are guilty of fraud under federal law and will be punished by fine, incarceration, or both.

Fraud is a serious offense; it deprives citizens who honestly need assistance from receiving the aid they are entitled to by law. Social Services Fraud investigation is not a service offered by the City of Vicksburg; however, if you suspect someone of social services fraud or would like more information about what constitutes fraud, you can anonymously contact the following HOTLINES:
