The City of Vicksburg Convention Center is a two floor, 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility that is home to regional and national conventions, an annual jazz festival, classical music concerts by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and the annual Emmy award-winning Miss Mississippi/Miss America Scholarship Pageant, in addition to a wide variety of other functions. The center is conveniently located in Vicksburg's Historic Downtown District, overlooking the Mississippi River, in close proximity to a number of hotels and motels as well as a multitude of other amenities.

The City Auditorium is located in the heart of historic Vicksburg. It features a proscenium stage, fly system and elevated seating. This historic theatre is the perfect setting for a community event or public performance. It is currently the home of the annual Miss Vicksburg Pageant, the Royal American Circus, a variety of blues concerts, ethnic heritage celebrations and community concerts. The facility seats up to 1240 people and has hosted a number of events since being built in 1951.

The City of Vicksburg Water Treatment Plant operates a water quality laboratory that works to maintain the purity and quality of the City of Vicksburg's water supply. They work to keep elements and mineral content in drinking water; such as lead, lime, and chlorine stabilized below acceptable levels and are always happy to answer customer concerns with water quality.

Accounting and Payroll's major tasks involve the maintenance of the City's accounting systems, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.  It is the department's responsibility to assist City personnel in the preparation of budgets and to monitor actual revenue and expenses in regard to those budgets. The department uses internal auditing and controls in monitoring all City assets. Questions about payroll, payments, and invoices may be directed to the Accounting Department at (601)631-3725.
The City of Vicksburg, along with Waste Management, provides pickup for debris, old appliances, garbage, limbs, and rubbish. Maintenance and repair is also offered for trash containers.
The City Clerk, appointed by the Mayor and Aldermen, is custodian of the City's official Seal and charged with the responsibility of keeping records of all proceedings of the elected officials of the City of Vicksburg.

The City Clerk's Office compiles and distributes Board meeting agendas; maintains an accurate record of the proceedings; publishes public notices as required by law; conducts municipal elections; serves as custodian of all contracts, dockets of claims, ordinances, resolutions, submitted bids and other City records; issues privilege licenses; coordinates record keeping activities of all City staff; maintains City cemetery records; and follows up on inquiries, complaints, letters, calls and research requests as prescribed by open record laws.
In August 2002, the City of Vicksburg established a twenty-four hour action line. Area citizens can call the "Center" to report problems, express concerns or simply get information. Never before have the citizens of Vicksburg had such access to their government. All calls are logged and tracked electronically. Each call is automatically forwarded to the proper department for action. The "Call Center" staff monitors the system for incidences that are not completed in a timely manner and makes inquiries as to the disposition of those incidents. The system helps us provide more efficient services as well as insuring that problems do not fall through the cracks.

We provide materials and services that are required by the City, beginning with the determination of requirements and usually ending with the disposal of the materials acquired. Purchasing manages the business relationship between the end user, City employees, and the supplier of goods and services.
The Water and Gas Administration Office is a public utility company that delivers and sells natural gas, water, sewer and garbage services to residential and business customers. We provide support for more than 10,000 utility accounts and provide a full service collection office. Our drive-thru window and office hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm for your convenience.

The Senior Center is owned and operated by the City of Vicksburg.The center is a place where all seniors come together in a safe and friendly environment to participate in activities and enjoy good fellowship.

Our activities include computer classes, crafts, art classes, sewing, piano, cooking demonstrations hosted by Ameristar Casino and Rainbow Casino, social and line dancing, games, bridge, dominoes, canasta, bingo and much more. And as always, everything is free. Who said aging has to be boring? We encourage anyone age 50 and older to come to the Center. It is truly a special place for Special People.

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the programs and practices relative to the municipal public works. They oversee the operation and budgets for twelve different City departments. The goal of the department is to maintain and improve the public infrastructure of the City of Vicksburg and provide the necessary facilities, services, and access to meet public needs and attract new development to insure growth.
We serve all people within our jurisdiction with respect, fairness, compassion, and integrity. We are committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order and safety; the enforcement of laws and ordinances; and the safeguarding of constitutional guarantees. With community service as our foundation, we are driven by goals to enhance the quality of life, investigating problems and incidents, seeking and finding solutions to create a sense of security in our community and in the individual. The Parks and Recreation Department is charged with providing quality recreational facilities to the citizens of Vicksburg. We currently have 13 full-time employees, nine of which are maintenance workers and over 100 part-time employees.

We maintain 15 playgrounds, 8 baseball fields, 2 youth softball fields, 3 adult softball fields, 1 Olympic pool and 10 tennis courts. Some of our activities include baseball (spring and fall), softball, basketball, arts programs, volleyball, swimming, flag football, lifeguard certification, umpire clinics and playground activities

The responsibilities and duties of the Planning Department range from serving as liaison to various commissions and boards to developing and maintaining  plans for renewal projects, land use, historic preservation and housing.
The first fire company in Vicksburg was organized in April 1837, with a second, rival company organized two weeks later. Others followed, manned by volunteers. By the late 1800s, some employees were paid, and by 1902, the Vicksburg Fire Department was a fully paid fire service -- the first in the state.

We take the lead role in coordinating the city's responsibility to plan, analyze, conduct and maintain programs to preserve and protect lives and property from major emergencies and disasters of all types. In this capacity, it maintains a current adequate emergency management program for the City of Vicksburg.

Live broadcasts consist of city board meetings, budget hearings, area organizational meetings and various other public meetings held in the city council board room and area offices. Special community related programs and notices are also provided that are beneficial to the community. A community calendar of events is also provided. No advertising is available or solicited by TV23.
Cedar Hill Cemetery is one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in the United States that is still in use today. It is also the final resting place for the Confederate Soldiers of the Civil War. A section in the Cedar Hill (Vicksburg City) Cemetery was set aside to provide a fitting burial place for Confederate soldiers who died of sickness or wounds. Known as "Soldier's Rest," the plot in Cedar Hill Cemetery is the final resting place for an estimated 5,000 Confederate soldiers.
We strive to provide a professional Building and Inspection Division that offers a comprehensive plan review procedure and inspection process for all new construction and a thorough residential and non-residential inspection process for all existing buildings in an effort to improve the quality and livability of the built environment.
The Animal Control Department is charged with enforcing City Ordinances concerning animal control. Some of our responsibilities are enforcing the leash laws, removal of vicious and stray animals, animal rescue, facility maintenance, and capture and removal of wild animals. In addition to picking up stray or unwanted dogs and cats, we remove dead animals from city streets and set traps for other non-domestic animals. We also investigate all cruelty calls.
